Korine Charlot, Kids Club Supervisor, Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa: "The Kids Club is also for parents!"

Social media

Korine, 30, has transformed her love of children into her dream job. As the Kids Club Supervisor at Canonnier Beachcomber, she is "auntie" to all the little ones visiting the resort from all over the world...

"Auntie, what are we doing today?" is the rallying cry Korine hears every morning, as the children arrive running to the Kids Club camp set up in the grounds of the hotel. Away from the hustle and bustle, four large canvas tents are erected around a palm-fringed sandy area. "It's their enthusiasm that carries me through," says Korine. It has been ten years since the young Mauritian woman started work at the Kids Club. "From one year to the next, I see the children develop and grow - it really touches me. It’s a privilege to be a part of that".

The birth of a vocation
"I didn’t choose my job, my job chose me. My mother was a teacher in a day care centre and I spent all my time there growing up. At the age of 8, I told her that I, too, wanted to work with children. "Ten years ago, Korine came to Canonnier Beachcomber. "I didn’t even know that kids clubs existed in hotels, and what a joy it was to discover! I remember it as if it was yesterday; it was my birthday, I was 20 years old, and it was one of the best days of my life!" Immediately, Korine felt in her element. "I feel very at ease with children; it comes to me naturally. I felt like my job was intuitive - all I needed was an abundance of energy!”

"Family friendly"

Promoted to Supervisor a year ago, Korine leads a team of six at the Kids Club. They welcome 30 children to the Kids Club every day – (with up to 60 in the high season) - aged between 3 and 11 years old.
"The Kids Club is also for parents!" Korine laughed. “The Kids Club, like the Teens Club, is the pillar of a family holiday at a Beachcomber resort. The activities that the Kids Club offers are diverse and exciting. They also offer children the opportunity to interact with other kids from different backgrounds and cultures, which helps them to grow and blossom. By entrusting their children to us, the parents are free to have some time off to enjoy themselves. At the end of the day, when they come to pick them up, both child and parent are bursting with stories to tell. If the children are happy, the parents are happy and so are we! " summarises Korine, mother of a twelve-year-old boy.

Walks on the island and introduction to archery, making sandcastles, and mini-Olympics competitions on the beach, crabbing and fishing in rockpools, zumba and sega classes to the sound of the ravannes ... Korine and her team never stop inventing creative games for the children. They also focus on teaching the kids about the nature of the island. Recently, they set up a small vegetable garden where every child is invited to plant a seed ... "We introduce kids to all kinds of activities so that they come away having learnt about our culture and surrounding environment. These children learn to understand the nature and Mauritian landscapes whilst they are on holiday, and therefore they take care to protect it. What’s more, by being in touch with kids of different nationalities, everyone learns to appreciate each others’ differences and learns a mutual respect. It's amazing to see them understand each other," said Korine dreamily ...
